Community Power Agency (CPA) is committed to protecting the privacy of energy practitioners and community organisations. This Privacy Statement explains how we collect, use, hold, and disclose your personal and project information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. Information we collect
To manage and maintain the Community Power Portal, we collect two distinct categories of information:
Personal and administrative information (Private): This includes personal contact names, organisational roles, email addresses, phone numbers, internal project notes, and data tracking edits (e.g., “Updated by/who”).
Project information (Public): This includes project names, site locations, tech specifications, capacities, and public organisation descriptions.
2. Strict limits on use and disclosure
We respect the sensitivity of the data you share. Your information will only be used for the primary purpose for which it was collected: mapping, supporting, and analysing the Australian community energy sector.
No public disclosure of contact details: Your personal contact details (names, emails, and organisational contact info) are strictly confidential. They are stored securely in a private database layer and will never be made public, sold, or shared with any external individuals, third-party stakeholders, or commercial entities outside of CPA.
Restricted project information sharing: Project technical and financial information will not be shared with any individuals or stakeholders outside of CPA in any other form or detail than exactly as it appears publicly on the Community Power Portal map.
3. Data Storage and Security (APP 11)
CPA takes all reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.
Private administrative data and contact details are blocked from the public-facing API that powers the map.
Access to private data fields is strictly restricted to authorised CPA personnel who require the information to manage the database or verify project details.
4. Access, Correction, and Data Updates (APP 12 & 13)
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and to request corrections if it is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date.
If your project details change, or if you identify a project entry that is incomplete or requires modification, you can submit data correction and update requests by emailing powerportal@cpagency.org.au.
5. Consent
By submitting your project and contact details to CPA, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as outlined in this Privacy Statement.
6. Liability
CPA shall not be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from inaccurate, incomplete or misleading information submitted by the user. The user warrants that all information provided is accurate and complete, and assumes responsibility for consequences arising from inaccurate or incomplete submissions. CPA will take reasonable steps to ensure the quality of personal information it holds, and users may request correction of their information at any time in accordance with this Privacy Statement.
